Biography of Celebrities: classical translations - Rolland.R

Biography of Celebrities is a collection of Roman Rollands Biography of Michelangelo, Biography of Tolstoy, and Biography of Beethoven. My father translated the first two books in 1934, and the Commercial Press published them in 1935. He translated Biography of Beethoven in 1931 while studying in France, but re-translated it in 1942, and the Camel Publishing House published it in 1946. After 1949, my father thought that his translations were too rough with lots of defects, so there were no more republications since then. In 1980s, his translations were collected in Five Biographies Translated by Fu Lei and Translated Works of Fu Lei; the Commercial Press reprinted the first two translations among the series of Biography of World Celebrities. In the 1990s, Anhui Literature and Art Publishing House collected them in Biography of Three Giants among the series of Fu Leis classical translated works.
